World's Greatest Insurance Man

Voices From The Past

A quick visit to Hollywood's Magic Castle this evening with my wife Cherie revealed how much we really do not change. My visit was motivated by a call from a distant voice from my past…ventriloquist, comedian, class-act, cruise-director, mentor and friend, Mark Merchant was in town performing in the Palace Of Mystery and wanted to know if I could drop by–I seized the moment. Immediate hugs, kisses–it was as if time had been frozen. Nothing has changed other then our experiences, marriages, children, travels, gigs–sure things have taken place, but the way I feel about Mark and our fond memories together performing on the ships, selling Bingo cards, calling horse races, directing passengers to their tours, working on our acts and craving a Big Mac on our afternoon off in San Juan are experiences you never forget. At 47 and 53 years old we are the same in so many ways. Now with so much to offer each other as friends who can relate to one another–our relationship will continue from this point forward as if no time has elapsed.
Mark related some negative associations/feelings he's been harboring for over twenty years in relationship to people we've both worked with intimately. I offered him a different perspective as to what I thought had taken place. As a result of Mark's trust and perspective flexibility, he was able to release those negative perceptions/feelings after so many years. Mark enabled me to accurately share stories of my past with my wife, as if she was there at our first point of contact. Your friendships are precious and need to be nurtured. Now it's your turn…
